Final Project

For our final we had to design a hospice. Here is our model

Case Study 3- Architecture Renewable Energy

Abu Dhabi is the capital and 2nd largest city in the United Arab Emirates. They are considered the 2nd richest city in the world and they are putting billions into a zero emissions metropolis in the desert. "Engineers are preparing to test solar collectors. Those collectors are scheduled to power a futuristic 100,000-resident city that will rise from this sandy wasteland by the Persian Gulf. The goal: to create the world's first metropolis that emits not a single extra molecule of carbon dioxide, the cause of global warming." It is an interesting irony that the country that got rich from oil is now the one pouring money into changing their habits, well at least in one particular area. It is being designed by London's Architects Foster & Partners. I am very interested in this project and I am excited to see how it turns out. It is amazing what can be done when money isn't an object!

Sketchup exercises

We had to do one and three sketches in both sketchup and in our sketch book. We then had to enter into Photoshop as a jpeg and post it onto our site.

Digital Wall By MIT

I was looking at ArchNews and found a design by MIT and Carlorattiassociati teamed up to create a water wall curtain that will be able to display digital messages on it as well as when a person passes through the water it will create a curtain so the person can walk through. It is a design for a pavilion that will have a cafe and other public spaces. It's basically like a computer screen on water!

"The dream of digital architecture has always been to create buildings that are responsive and reconfigurable," says Ratti. "Think about spaces that can expand or shrink based on necessity and use. It is not easy to achieve such effects when dealing with concrete, bricks, and mortar. But this becomes possible with digital water, which can appear and disappear."

It will be in Spain and this kind of design just shows where design, natural systems, and technology can team up to create something creative, new, and fun!
